Getting Better

Life is getting better. Drew has decided that he would like to sleep through the night...with a little help from me. I really battled with this one. With our girls I let them "cry" it out and they were sleeping through the night at 9 weeks old. But with Drew I struggled with bonding and making sure he knows that we are there for him but also creating a monster. I know there are some that say you can't spoil a baby but I would have to disagree. See I knew Drew was okay because when he would cry for 95% of the time I could get him to go back to sleep very quickly in my arms...but as soon as I laid him down...you guessed it, he was right back up crying. Like all of our children and for that matter all children, they like to be held. So I battled with starting something with no end in sight or start allowing him to "cry" a little. My plan was to let him cry for a set about of time and then I set up a bed in his room. I was going lay down in his room allowing him to see me but not talk to him or hold. Just so he knew I was there. Well the first night came and I was ready with my plan and bed made :) He woke up at 1:30 cried for 7 minutes and was done, woke up around 2:30 cried less then 5 minutes, and woke up at 4:00 cried about 10 minutes this time and was done. In the morning when I went to get him, he was standing in his bed as happy as could be. Since then we have been sleeping through the night !!!!!!!! Thank you for all your prayers....they are felt!!!
Life is still a 4 ring circus here. Adie is continually surprising me in the many things she can do (not good things) or eat (usually out of the trash can or off the store floor. It is so cute at how she tries hard to be nice to Drew and then something comes over her and she brakes free and smashes Drew's head into the carpet. I keep reminding her that Drew WILL someday pay her back...she's not listening :(
Mahala is loving school but with school comes an attitude...not settling too well with an over stressed mom :( Not looking forward to junior high :(
Olivia is my sweet one right now :) Don't tell the others :)
And we are entering hunting season, which means I will be a single mother for 2 months....NOT good timing !!!
Trying to take a deep breath and take time to ENJOY life!!!!!!!
In His Time! Worth it ALL! Love the Hess'

Yay for you, getting Drew to sleep! That is so crucial. And oh my...I have a two year old just like yours...we talked about that, didn't we? She pushes Shu down, takes his toys, yells at him. Sheesh. Having a very hard time with her these days. But God is good and we'll make it. :o)

Hi,

I found your blog through the Duchess of Lanier blog. We were just matched on Monday with a baby who is at the same orphanage where Drew stayed. She also has a cleft lip and palate, and it looks like she will go through the same things Drew did at a similar age (she was born in April and we're guessing that we'll travel to get her in February or March). Would you be available to answer questions if I have them?

Thanks!

Shelah
