Surgery

Got the call from Dr. Blocksom's office today to schedule Drew's lip & palate surgery!! Drew will have surgery on August 9th at noon. Up to this point I have been okay with the thought of surgery but now that reality is setting in the thought of Drew having a 3-4 hour surgery is making me nervous, scared, not ready for this, etc. When we got Drew I knew that we would come down this road but I guess we would have more time. I know Drew needs the surgery NOW. He should have had his lip repaired at 3 months old but now he is almost 13 months old. He should have had his palate repaired at one year but we are past that mark too. He will do great. Children always do...it's the parent that goes crazy :)

The nurse said that Drew can't have any after 8 am on the 9th. And only clear liquids from 4-8am that morning. So what do I do...Drew does NOT like any clear liquids....and he is very hungry when he wakes up (who's not). So do I wake him up at 3:30 in the morning and feed him his bottle and just try to get some kind of clear liquid in before 8 am. or allow him to get a good nights rest and just deal with it? whatever we do...it is going to be a VERY LONG morning!!!!!!

Mahala: She is growing up so fast and so is the attitude :) She will enter the 1st grade this year. Not ready for this at all. She starts school the day after Drew's surgery. I'm struggling with all of the timing. We were not there for his last day of school...we were in China getting Drew! Now one of us will not be there for her first day of school. Though Mark would not have been there anyways, but Mommy would. But I also want to be at the hospital with Drew.

We had a girls night out the other day. We went and saw a Cinderella Play. The girls LOVED it!

Olivia: She turns 5 on Monday. I can't believe she will be 5!!!!! She is such a sweet, love bug. She loves her brother.

Adie: loves to be busy :) Can't say anything else, busy should be her middle name. She loves Drew also but wants to help alot...and not always in a good way. Got to keep an eye on her :)

Doctor Visit Update

We went and saw the Craniofacial Doctor last week. I called on Thursday to see if we would be meeting with the whole Craniofacial team or just this one doctor. They said just the one doctor...so i thought this was a get to know you meeting before we meet the team, so I did not make Mark come to the meeting. Well I was wrong :( We don't meet the team until later down the road but this was a very important meeting that Mark should have been there for. But of well, can't remind time!

Dr. Blocksom wants to do Drew's surgery ASAP. He is going to do his lip and palate at the same time. We need to see an ENT first to determine if Drew needs tubes. If so then the two doctors will schedule surgery when both can do their job. Drew did a great job, even when people were messing with his mouth and taking pictures. Our appointment with the ENT is next week. Dr. Blocksom wants to do surgery a few weeks after the ENT appointment. Drew will be in arm splints and nose splints (little round things to keep shape of nose) for one month :( going to be a very long month....especially when he likes to suck his fingers to sleep. i guess this is one way of stopping the sucking of fingers :)

First Steps come out on Friday to evaluate Drew to see what serves he qualifies for. Hopefully they will be able to work on the baby food issue also.

Soon Drew will look like a different little boy. but he will still have his sweet spirit :)

Big Week

This is a BIG week for Drew. We have a doctor's appointment on Thursday and the Big doctor's appointment on Friday. On Friday we meet with the Craniofacial Team at St. V's. He is not going to be excited with people touching and being in his family. We are continually amazed how well Drew is doing and are so blessed to have him in our lives. He is such a happy boy! And sometimes a flirt with the ladies. He knows how to smile at the ladies and then bury his head. He is getting so big. We are now in 6-9 month clothes :) He continues to gain strength in his legs and we are getting better sitting up. It is amazing what a little love can do to the growth of a child!!!
